2024 News

2024 was a very nomadic year for me. In January, I embarked on a new adventure as the Spring 2024 Visiting Faculty for a renowned study abroad program, SIT (School for International Training) Cities in the 21st Century: People, Planning and Politics. Through mid-May, I traveled with a diverse group of 32 college students from across the U.S., beginning in New York City and then spending a month each in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Barcelona, Spain; and Cape Town, South Africa. I was the sole traveling faculty member, teaching courses in urban politics and contemporary urban issues. We met with grassroots organizers working to address issues related to housing, tourism, immigration, employment and sustainability.

After my return, I spent the summer delivering speeches, designing custom walking tours, and focusing on my second book on Little Havana. I left Miami and resided temporarily in Saint Augustine, Florida–the oldest city in the U.S.!

In the fall, I decided to make a more permanent move outside of Florida and back to Western Massachusetts, to be closer to aging parents. I’m excited to be offering a range of events, workshops and courses now and in 2025! See upcoming events below.
